What to Order, When Eating Out

Hello Fabulous KMPM Readers!!!

The holiday season has just begun, who’s already stuffed from turkey and stuffing and pumpkin pie from last months Thanksgiving feast? Me. Haha Well I know that things are only going to get crazier and life is going to get busier and we might be eating out more often due to the craziness of it all. Well I am here to help you along the way. I want to be able to give you some quick and easy tips to go by when you’re eating out with friends and family or grabbing a quick bite on the go. Even though we are “busy” and “don’t have time to make a home cooked/healthy meal” doesn’t mean we throw away all of our hard work that we have been putting towards our bodies all year long, does it. We can still reach our goals with some modifications and substitutions and knowing what to look for and what to grab. Let’s eat. When eating out, at a sit down restaurant here is a quick list of things that you can do to make sure that you stay on track with your dietary restrictions, and goals: 1. Ask for changes or substitutions to the menu 2. Always ask for more veggies as your sides. 3. Ask how the food was prepared. 4. Order from the, “healthy,” “Light,” or “low fat” entrees section 5. Ask to box ½ of the meal before you even get it (portion control) 6. Order a salad before ordering the rest of your meal 7. Beware of salad dressings; stay away from “creamy” cream based dressings.

Watch your toppings; no croutons. Load up on veggies. And always ask for dressing on the side.

Other ways in which you can prepare yourself before you go out and make sure that you are staying on track of reaching your goals; search their menu online first and know what you’re selecting before you get there. When reading the menu either at home or in the restaurant, be cautious of words such as: “buttery,” “sautéed,” “pan-fried,” “au-gratin,” “Newburg,” and “cheese sauce.” These can be loaded with extra fat and calories that aren’t going to help you reach your goals. Before the meal, ask the waiter for raw veggies as opposed to the bread basket. Always order water and try to skip the fancy drinks. They can be loaded with extra sugar that can turn into fat in the body. When and if you order fish, do not order it Fried. Skip dessert out, and instead opt for a piece of dark chocolate at home. And one last suggestion when eating out…. DRESS UP. Make going out more of a special occasion and not an everyday type thing, and you might treat it more as a special thing and not eat out as often. Those are just some simple suggestions that I hope you try and I hope can help keep you on the right path towards achieving your goals.
