Epsom salt has been used for centuries to help treat health ailments, used as beauty products and even used to help out around the house. For those who might not know what Epsom salt is, please, let me share with you its awesome benefits that it can provide for you.

Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate, different than common table salt which is sodium chloride. Epsom salts most common use is to soak in an Epsom salt bath. Just taking an Epsom salt bath increases levels of magnesium and sulfate in the blood, making it useful in avoiding dangerous deficiencies. Magnesium is essential for physiological functions within the human body, such as regular heart rhythm, muscle contractions and bone formation. Magnesium deficiency is a common problem in humans and adding a salt bath a couple times a week can help reduce your likely hood of developing a magnesium deficiency. Sulfate helps form protein structures, converts our food into energy, and maintains proper insulin function.

Some of the most significant and known benefits and uses of Epsom salt is; it is great for heart health because it increases magnesium and sulfate in the blood. Magnesium is a potent anti-inflammatory mineral which helps reduce joint pain and muscle pain. The magnesium in the Epsom salt also helps increase insulin sensitivity which allows the body to control blood sugar better and helps reduce the risks of diabetes. Epsom salt is also an FDA approved laxative, which can help to relieve constipation. An increase in magnesium in the body can also help reduce the signs of depression. Stress can cause the body to use magnesium less efficiently. Magnesium deficiency can make us more likely to suffer the consequences of stress. Soaking in an Epsom salt bath can help relieve stress by absorbing the magnesium through the skin and the process itself, by soaking in warm water is relaxing and a great stress reliever.

Some other ways Epsom salt can be used is to make body scrubs, ease minor sunburns, exfoliates skin, foot soak, it can add extra volume to hair, and relieve itchy skin and bug bites. Epsom salt can also be used around your house as; a tile and grout cleaner, prepare soil for fertilizing, repels slugs, and it can help when you water your plants.

You can find Epsom salt at your local grocery store or you can buy it online. It is recommended to add two Epsom salt baths per week to start benefiting from the increase in magnesium and sulfate in the body. Now you guys are ready for your salt bath right, well this is how you do it. Start running your bath water, warm, not too hot, and pour in about 1-2 cups of Epsom salt. Make sure it is fully dissolved before entering the bath. For added serenity to your Epsom salt bath, add some calming essential oils to the bath, lavender is always a good place to start. Feel free to customize your bath for your personal preference. It is only necessary to soak in the tub for 20 min to start reaping the benefits from your bath, feel free to stay in the bath for as long as you please. Simple right!
